| Resumo: | The purpose of my talk is to show the audience what challenges domain experts have in teaching machines. What would be the most intuitive ways to teach conversational machines? What kind of paradigms do we have today to support people who teach conversational systems? How to evaluate that the machine learned? I will show two user-centered studies that unveiled the mental maps of domain experts and recommendations to perform this task more productively. I will present two studies that explore the task and perceptions of machine teaching paradigms for non-machine learning specialists. The first study was in the Catavento Science Museum, and we conducted semi-structured interviews with 47 museum guides and employed Design Fiction as a technique to explore machine teaching of future technologies in public spaces. The second study was in a customer-care domain that aimed to understand how content curators (SMEs) map new information in Conversational platforms to derive intents and example questions. We applied the Critical Decision Method approach in our semi-structured interviews and card sorting activities to uncover SMEs' experiences. Moreover, we invited experienced curators to participate in Four workshops to understand their challenges in teaching other novice curators. |
